Product construction

Flexible diamond tools are made of 3 main elements: Grit, Bond and Backing. Various combinations of these elements offer many possibilities to meet industrial needs with the highest efficiency.

Grits

Diamond consists of pure carbon in a crystalline structure. For grinding tools, the diamonds used are generally synthetic, produced at very high temperatures under high pressure. The grit size data for diamond is based upon the average grit diameter inμm. A rough grit size increases the stock removal and surface roughness of the workpiece. Choosing the right grit size depends on various factors: the application, the material, the tool drive, wet (water, lubricant) or dry grinding (general rule use wet).

Grit range

 All grits are colour coded and available in: 251 µm (60–80) , 126 µm (120), 91µm (180), 64µm (240–320), 46 µm (400)  , 30µm(600) , 20µm(800) ,  15µm(1200) , 12µm(1800)

Bonds

Flexible has flexible diamond tools available in metal and resin bond versions.

Nickel bond

Nickel bond for nickel layer with special electroplating process, mainly used for coarse and medium particle size and operations requiring high material removal rate.

The process starts with metallizing the fabric. The pattern was electroformed using nickel plating. Sprinkle diamond on it and proceed to plating to the required specifications. Resin bond Resin bond

Resin is mainly used for finer grit and polishing. Continuous resin layer. Diamonds go all the way through the resin. Product must be "on" for optimum performance.

Backing

Backing for flexible diamond tools, special fabric made on special needs. This unique process provides strength and flexibility compared to our competitors. This fabric has good dimensional stability, high abrasion resistance, and excellent heat dissipation, and can be laminated to many different types of backings. This unique sheet can then be laminated to many different backings depending on the application. A variety of backings (from heavy duty to flexible) are designed for optimum diamond retention, excellent edge wear, and can be combined with many different patterns and particle sizes to suit different demanding applications.

Pattern

Large circle dot: used for applications where loading is a problem. Grades 250um and 300um only.
Medium circle dot: 17 pellets/inch for aggressive cutting action, improved coolant flow and increased swarf removal
small circle dot: 25 pellets/inch for the finishes. Provides fastest stock removal on very hard materials such as thermal spray coating and ceramics

Arrow:

Strong interlocking arrow pattern, specifically developed for heavy stock removal and finishing. Ideal for grinding on the slack of the belts and for grinding surface with sharp edges. This pattern – with lines in all directions, has always contact with the work piece ensuring a high level of comfort grinding due to no soldiering. The structure of the pattern ensures good heat dissipation.

Metal Bond- Connected arrows - Closed pattern - Medium-fine grits - Mainly used for discs. Metal Bond-More open pattern – not connected arrows - Giving higher Flexibility and stock removal - For high performance belt grinding, glass arrissing.

Flexible diamond belt glass edging solution

Specifically developed in cooperation with OEMs, it is designed to equip automatic Seaming and edges machine.

The flexible diamond tool does not stress the glass, adapts to the edge of the glass, makes the glass angular, smooth and fast, and eliminates the possibility of glass chipping cracks and chips. High quality pattern design, Supported by a durable yet flexible waterproof backing. Special pattern connection for extended service life without collision. This allows processing of glass sheets of different squares. The unique electroplating technology makes the diamond electroplating layer strong and durable, avoiding scratches caused by the loose grit design of standard traditional electroplating abrasive belts, and has a long service life.

Choice of diamond grain size

The most commonly used granules are 120GGrit and 200Grit

Coarse grit 60 or fine grit 320 is occasionally required for special rough or finer finishes.

edges and corners:

200Grit grinding 3-5mm thick glass plate, can achieve 0.5mm edge angle.

120Grit achieving an arriss of 1.0 mm or larger on 6-10 mm thick glass panes.

Wet and dry use:

Automatic production lines always use coolants to improve the performance of diamond belts and maximize service life. Use diamond belts for wet grinding unless otherwise specified.

Recommended working speed:25 – 32m/s, max speed 45m/s. Conventional belts run at about 12-15 m/s, and diamond belts grind at about 25-32 m/s and perform best, providing the highest productivity while the conventional belts operate at about 25-32 m/s Grinding efficiency is also good at speed

Tech Tips

For optimum performance and optimum service life, the following precautions are recommended The parameters conform to the machine's instructions for use and operating conditions:

Coolant: Use solvent-free clean water and additives. Keep the flow constant at the grinding point.

Pressure Condition: Apply the correct pressure for the belt setting, too low will cause varnish, too high will cause Belt wear is uneven. Deformation under tension is about 20mm.

Timing: Once the panel is conveyed to the middle of the belt, the abrasive side of the belt should touch the glass. Align the center of the grinding surface for the smallest contact points and longest belt life and reduce unnecessary wear.

Belt Guide Roller: Use a clean belt guide wheel with a flat surface to ensure smooth running of the belt.

Configuration statement- normal belt crown - or slight bevel on outer edge.

Equipment maintenance: Regularly check the setting parameters of the belt grinder to avoid unnecessary abrasive belt wear caused by inaccurate parameter settings.

Note: Doubling the seam width from 0.5mm to 1.0mm means 4 times the stock to be removed.
